Freeplay is a scam, as many have noticed over the last month. Because of RuneScape gold the huge number of bots, and the suck running the muck, it is nearly impossible to play. I was freeplaying two years ago and I spent almost 2 years playing that, and it was not like the current situation. The main change is free trade.
But, is it really necessary to allow trade? Jagex claims that freeplay does not require trade. But, it's an improvement over fully-featured members. Talk to me if necessary, but freeplayers always rank lower in the ladder. It is worth considering the benefits of offering trading for free to all players:
It will increase the enjoyment of playing and make it less vulnerable to hacking. Although there will still be some bots, they won't be at the level before free trading. But, it will allow the game to be more enjoyable. While it might be referred to as classic, it will make it less easy to get scammed and be easier for newer players to be sucked into.
A member's benefit of free trade would provide an incentive to players who upgrade to members. Additionally, the more enjoyable gameplay would encourage them stay longer. This would not be popular with freeplayers though, as it would likely mean that the wilderness would be removed again. In the case of free play, the PvP realm could be restored in their current location. This would permit players who prefer them over Wildy to have a place where they could play PK.
Jagex's integrity is what I believe would suffer most. Although this is a great step in making the game more enjoyable however, some players might perceive it as being indecisive and even lying about returning the wilderness. However, it would be an unwise business decision to allow players who are frustrated and quit to cheap RS gold make the most as they can, which could help the player base over the long run.
